OK-diario reports on an „Easter egg“ of the Valencian government: Valencian President „Puig lets Ukrainian refugees 'immerse' in Valenciano“. By „immersion“ (inmersión) is meant that only one language is taught.

Valencian President Ximo Puig (PSOE) together with Education Minister Vicent Marzá of Compromís have decided that about 25,000 refugees will have to study mainly in Valenciano.

„No less than 22 welcome courses (are offered) to learn Valenciano, compared to only 8 Spanish courses in the entire length and breadth of Valencian territory.“ That doesn't leave much democratic choice for these refugees, who could learn a language spoken by 570 million people. The vast majority will only converse with 2.4 million people with whom, however, they could just as easily converse in Spanish.

Malicious tongues are now claiming that this measure is ideally suited to ensure that the refugees, who have only learned Valenciano, will not find work outside the Comunidad Valenciana, which is why they will be available as cheap labour in this region.

But as I said, these are of course only evil tongues, I wonder if behind this there is not a sectarian understanding of people who compare Spanish-speaking teachers with alcoholised and burping people.

However, Puig and Marzá seem to be the leading gurus of this sect and direct language policy in Valencia at this level.
