In Vinarós, a town in the Comunidad Valenciana, a book in Valenciano is being offered for sex education in school. There is resistance to this, as El País reported this week.

The right-wing VOX had vetoed it in the town hall, citing many complaints from parents, and the socialist mayor Guillem Alsina accused VOX of „idological politicization.“

It is possible to have different opinions about the sexual education of children. The extremes are certainly VOX - influenced by the Spanish Catholic Church with its Francist tradition - and those ideologists who see more than two sexes. But that is not the point here.

The article of El País writes about the content of the book titled „El triangle rosa“ (The pink triangle) that a young person would discover that he has a sexual choice because there is sexual diversity. By which is presumably meant that there would be many sexes. An ideology that would probably have trouble finding a significant majority among the people anywhere in the world.

The crucial point is that parents who do not speak Valenciano cannot read the book on sex education in Valenciano. Therefore, they do not know exactly, or at all, what is taught to their children in school. They are also unable to address the subject matter with their children accordingly.

This is not only true for sex education, it is also true for all other subjects. The children have to learn in a foreign language, which is a disadvantage. Parents cannot help their children, even with material that is difficult to understand.

Only if the children are taught in their mother tongue is good learning possible and the parents can control what is taught in school. The parents then have control. This is not what all the politicians want who think they have to prescribe in which language and with which percentages instruction should take place.
