Corona restrictions drive up „surgery waiting time“, local newspapers report. In September „61,700 people are waiting ... waiting for an appointment for an operation - around 1,400 more than in July“ and „medical staff ... have published an open letter to Valencia's prime minister“ , in which they complain about the lack of special allowances. (Applause buys no bread) Las Provincias reported on 13.10.20 that the staff is working at 90% of its capacity with the burden of the Covid measures and writes: „We hardly look for patients who do not have a Covid“ .
Many governments are tightening lockdowns and curfews in view of the expected increase in influenza and Covid-19 during the fall. Ten thousand high-ranking scientists led by professors from Harvard, Oxford and Stanford, supported by 25,000 medical professionals, call for a return to old normality in the Barrington Declaration.
It is therefore time to debate and eliminate the real causes of the plight of the Spanish and Valencian health system. Instead, the Valencian government's solution in this precarious situation is: Physicians must be able to speak Valenciano!
In the province of Valencia there is a considerable minority whose native language is Valenciano, a Catalan dialect. It is therefore justified that the authorities must ensure that every citizen can be served in his mother tongue, Spanish or Valenciano. It remains questionable whether 100% of the officials must be bilingual for this reason.
However, this demand becomes questionable at the latest when one knows that tens of thousands of physicians are missing in Spain. On the Balearic Islands, where the language requirement for doctors has been in force for a long time, the hundreds of medical personnel has already demonstrated many times against this, as can be seen in the picture above. „Languages don't heal“ was their slogan, and this must also be said to the Valencian government, which has once again presented a bill that demands Valenciano from all civil servants, including medical personnel.
One has to ask oneself where this madness for language imposition is going to lead the Valencian government, which is supported by the PSOE, Compromís and the extreme right-wing Bloc Nacionalista Valencià. One can rightly assume that in the end it is all about exaggerated nationalism and a secession from Spain along with a unification of an independent Catalan state. For this reason, a few years ago, the Calpe Town Hall decided that the name of the city would be „Calp“. The town hall of Villajoyosa has now agreed that from now on only the Valencian name of the city is valid. Also there one has obviously much time for such nonsense, against which on Sunday, 18.10.2020 will be demonstrated. I will be there.
The town hall of Jávea, the place where I have been living for 20 years, is increasingly publishing only in Valenciano instead of both official languages. The name of the town appears in its publications only with its Valencian variant. That's another good reason to march in Villajoyosa on Sunday.
